Privacy Policy
Last updated July 14, 2026
Nova is made by Elion Labs ("we", "us"). This policy explains what Nova collects, why, and the choices you have. We built Nova to be private by default: your health data is yours, and we never sell it.
What Nova collects
- Meal photos and notes you capture in the app, so Nova can read your plate and score how it digests.
- Body data you choose to connect — weight and body-water from a smart scale, water and activity from Apple Health, and sleep, readiness and related metrics from your Oura ring. These connect only when you turn them on, with the permission you grant.
- Account details — if you sign in, we use your name and email from Google or Apple to save your data to your account.
- Basic app diagnostics to keep Nova working.
How your plate is read (third-party AI)
What is sent. Only the meal you choose to log: the photo you take of a plate, or the text you type to describe a meal or to ask the in-app coach a question. Nothing else is sent — not your weight, not your body or Apple Health data, not your Oura data, not your location, not your name or email.
How it is collected. Only by your own deliberate action, at the moment you take a photo, type a meal, or send a question. Nova does not collect this data in the background and never sends anything from your camera roll that you did not pick.
Who it is sent to. Anthropic, PBC, the maker of Claude. The request is relayed through our own server so that no credentials are stored in the app; Anthropic is the only third-party AI service Nova uses.
Why, and every use of it. Solely to identify the food on the plate, estimate how it digests, and answer the question you asked — then return that result to you. There is no other use. We do not use it for advertising or profiling, we do not sell it, and it is not used to train Anthropic's models.
Your permission. Nova asks you to agree to this in the app before anything is ever sent to Anthropic. If you decline, nothing is sent.
Third-party protection. Anthropic processes this data as our service provider under contractual terms that require confidentiality and protections equal to those described in this policy, and its API inputs and outputs are not used to train its models. See Anthropic's privacy policy.
Oura, Apple Health, and your scale
When you connect Oura, you authorize Nova through Oura's own secure sign-in. Nova receives only the data you approve (such as sleep and readiness) and uses it to show your recovery inside the app. Apple Health and smart-scale data stay on your device or in your private account. You can disconnect any source at any time, which stops future syncing.
Where your data lives
Your account data is stored securely using Google Firebase, protected with industry-standard measures, and retained while your account is active.
What we never do
- We do not sell your personal or health data.
- We do not share it with advertisers.
- We do not use your health data for anything other than providing Nova to you.
Your choices
You can disconnect any linked service, delete individual entries, or ask us to delete your account and data by emailing j@elionlabs.org. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights, which we honor.
Children
Nova is not intended for anyone under 16.
Changes
If we update this policy, we will change the date above and, for significant changes, notify you in the app.
